Hi my name is Schulembergera Bridgessii, or, Holiday, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Easter Cactus! Depending on which holiday I am named after, will tell you when you might expect me to bloom! While most call me a cactus, I am actually an epiphytic succulent and I come from a place that might surprise you, the Rainforests of Brazil! So I have some different care needs than the normal desert cactus and succulents!

*How to care for me:

The Holiday Cactus does need a little bit of attention, be sure to give your plant the correct soil mixture (see next section). It will also do fine in low light locations, but will thrive and have a better blooming season if it is in a bright well lit area, but too much direct sun can burn the plant, so be sure to keep this in mind when finding the perfect spot in your home!

Water: The Holiday Cactus enjoys its water, but is also susceptible to root and stem rot if sitting in water. Check to see when the top of the soil is slightly damp, then water your Holiday Cactus! Heavier watering during the Spring - Summer will benefit this plant, but be sure to soil test first! Higher humidity is a big plus for growing your new Holiday Cactus to really thrive! Once your Holiday Cactus has finished flowering, it is now time for the plant's natural dormancy cycle to begin. Slowly reduce the amount of watering the plant receives, and place your Holiday Cactus in a darker area, if possible it is best to also put it in a cooler area, to best replicate its natural environment for the best results! Your Holiday Cactus will also want to stay away from drafty areas in the cool months as well as during its dormant cycle.

*How to plant me: This festive cactus enjoys a loose mix of soil; compost, loam, and sand will keep your Holiday Cactus happy and well drained. A pot with a drain hole is best, so there is less chance of sitting water. I will do great in a bathroom or an East facing window!

*Do animals like me?

Sort of, while the Holiday cactus is not directly toxic to your fur-family, the fibrous material this plant has may leave your pets with digestion issues if they make a snack out if it.

*Can I go outside? Yes ! If you are in a warm, humid area the Holiday Cactus will do exceptionally well! Just remember to keep it out of direct sunlight. If you are in cooler areas, your Holiday Cactus can be seasonally outdoors, under the correct conditions.

*How am I being cared for now? Each parent plant at eeLovan is set up so your young plants will be the happiest and healthiest they can be before heading off to their new homes! We have different variations of light sources, soil mixes, and fertilizers. Although the parent plants are grown in different setups, you can rest assured that your plants will thrive and grow no matter how you choose to keep them (*As long as general plant needs and guidelines are fulfilled, your plants will do well! If you leave them in a dark corner and forget to water them until their soil turns to dust...your plants will not thrive!)

*What comes with me? Your new Christmas Cactus will arrive happily packaged and ready to use its new home! Alongside it will be its personal Care Card!
